All smiles and legs, that's our Dalton!!!

This handsome dude appears to be a Plott Hound mix almost 4 years old. He's friendly and playful with everyone: fantastic with other dogs, loves all animals (that would include kitties!), and does well with children he encounters. He's crate trained, but will need house training and leash training. He's such a happy boy who rides well in a car - he likes to look out the back window. He's affectionate, smart, eager to please, respects commands and corrections, and is treat motivated. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes. Not only do you learn cool stuff together, it's great for socialization with new dogs and people, helps with confidence building and you and your pup can get in some quality bonding time! Being treat motivated can help make training go smoother, too. Though Dalton may not require a fenced yard, that's the safest option for playing and romping. However if it's not an option, then daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park are the next best thing. Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental exercise - think puzzle toys and games.

Dalton LOVES a bed, walks, play yard time with other dogs or humans - and if no one's around, he's perfectly content to play outside by himself. He can be somewhat vocal: he barks and dances at feeding time, and also barks while playing. He's a pretty chill pup and the type who walks away from conflict with other dogs. What he'd really, really love would be to be in his forever home for the Holidays. Does Dalton seem like the perfect fit for your family? Dalton's Backstory: He was dropped off at a shelter very emaciated and heartworm positive. He's completed treatment and this sweetie-pie is ready to be adopted!

Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Treatment has been completed and the dog tested negative for microfilaria, so he is now cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is:

. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
